Hot press sintering is a process that uses thermal and mechanical energy to densify products. The characteristics of this process are that the sintering temperature can be 200-400℃ lower than that of normal pressure sintering depending on the applied pressure, and the increased energy makes the densification of the products faster, so the fully densified, fine-grained products can be completed at a lower temperature and in a shorter time; and the vacuum hot-press sintering can further increase the sintering temperature of the products due to the high vacuum maintained during the hot-pressing process, and effectively remove the gas in the micro-pores. gas, thus further promoting the densification process.

It is well known that lowering the sintering temperature, for micronized products, can effectively prevent the grain growth, which is important for the stability of the final product quality. Especially for near-nano carbide, the driving force of final sintering increases and the number of macropores decreases due to the decrease of grain size and the increase of specific surface area, surface activation energy and interparticle contact area. It is now found that the sintering driving force of nanopowder products is tens or even hundreds of times higher than that of ordinary products. Inhibition of grain growth during sintering is the most critical process for obtaining nanocrystalline products, and the vacuum hot-press sintering process can do this very well.

Vacuum hot pressing furnace is mainly composed of furnace body, furnace door, heating and insulation and temperature measurement system, pressure system, vacuum system, water cooling system, control system, etc.
(1) The furnace body adopts stainless steel double-layer structure, divided into inner cylinder and outer cylinder. The furnace bottom head is processed by spinning process. Because the force generated by the hot pressing device is to be borne by the furnace body, the furnace body must have high strength and sufficient rigidity, and cannot be deformed under the action of external force and high temperature.
(2) The furnace door is composed of furnace head and flange, lifting cylinder and upper pressure head. The furnace door is a double-layer structure. In order to withstand the pressure transmitted by the lower injector, it must have sufficient strength and rigidity. The lower end of the upper gate is in the high temperature zone when working, and must be forced to cool.
(3) Insulation cylinder is composed of insulation cylinder, reflection cylinder, insulation layer and cylinder body, which are made of graphite, molybdenum sheet, graphite felt and stainless steel respectively. The reflection cylinder made of molybdenum sheet mainly resists the radiation heat generated by the heater to avoid damaging the insulation layer and the furnace body.
(4) The hot pressing device consists of hydraulic station, oil cylinder, lifting cylinder, lower top bar and controller. The hydraulic station has two pressure outputs, one is to drive the furnace cover up and down, and the other is to drive the hot press cylinder. The hot press cylinder must have high stability and must not wobble when working under load. The quality of movement of the hot pressing cylinder is one of the important conditions for preparing high quality products.
